WORKSHOP REPORT:
The Future of Public Hearings in British Columbia

workshopreport.png

In April 2022, the Renovate the Public Hearing Initiative hosted a province-wide workshop on the future of public hearings in British Columbia. The workshop convened elected officials, local government staff, community organizations and policy/industry experts to reflect on the rationale for public hearings and the challenges and opportunities created by public hearing requirements, to envision alternative approaches to public input, and to discuss the criteria that could be used to evaluate those alternatives.

This Workshop Report summarizes the purpose, process and outcomes of this generative workshop and highlights input given by participants, including identified benefits and challenges of public hearings, and ideas on proposed alternatives, opportunities for improvement, and evaluation of change.
