Ayaan Ismail (she/her)

PLANNING ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST, RENOVATE THE PUBLIC HEARING INITIATIVE

Ayaan is a dedicated community organizer and advocate, experienced facilitator, and dialogue convener who is passionate about furthering Afrocentric decolonial practices in her life and communities. She comes from a background rooted in community-centred practices and community care that is inspired by fostering meaningful and trustworthy relationships. Ayaan is passionate about creating decolonial, culturally appropriate and accessible spaces for dialogue, hence spending her time curating such spaces as well as building and maintaining relationships with diverse communities across Metro Vancouver and Canada. Her community, professional, and academic experiences involve working towards safe, inclusive, and equitable spaces for dialogue and engagement that remove barriers for everyone. During her free time, she participates in grassroots mutual aid efforts and volunteers her time with the Black Youth Initiative where she co-manages the Indigenous and Black youth support fund.
