RENOVATE THE PUBLIC HEARING:
Workshop Discussion Guide

discussionguide.png

In April 2022, the Renovate the Public Hearing Initiative hosted a province-wide workshop on the future of public hearings in British Columbia. The workshop convened elected officials, local government staff, community organizations and policy/industry experts to reflect on the rationale for public hearings and the challenges and opportunities created by public hearing requirements, to envision alternative approaches to public input, and to discuss the criteria that could be used to evaluate those alternatives.

This Discussion Guide was created to prepare participants for the Future of Public Hearings workshop. It presents an overview of public hearing legislation in BC, its origins, current practice, and some considerations for adjustments and alternatives.
